Formatting footnotes and endnotes in Microsoft Word

To override the default i, ii, iii... endnote notation, choose

Insert > Footnotes > Option

On the number format dialogue box, click the arrow and choose 1,2,3...

Then click OK when asked and your endnotes will be numbered 1,2,3....
