Examining the mailing lists

• From Unix/PC
  • Reach lists: telnet mps.ohio-state.edu 25 [space before "25" is mandatory]
  • Verify a possible alias: vrfy alias
  • Get full name of alias: expn alias
  • Get contents of a list: expn full-list-name
• On VMS
  • Set no of linex on xterm: e.g., set term/page=40
  • Move to correct directory:
       sd dev$lib:[physics_mailing_list]
  • Current status of files: dir/date
  • To search for any name: verify_name [name]
  • To look at specific file: type/page [file-name.dis]
  • Compare latter and earlier file: diff [file-name.dis]
  • Find number of entries: search/stat [file-name.dis] x
      Relevant entry is Records seached.
