Request to terminate the following majors:
Crop Science, Landscape Horticulture, Turfgrass Science
The Department of Horticulture and Crop Science requests that the Crop Science, Landscape Horticulture, and Turfgrass Science majors be terminated once all students who are currently in them are moved into the new (for semesters) major: Sustainable Plant Systems and appropriate specialization. The move will occur Summer 2011 with the start of semesters and availability of the new abbreviations. No new students should be admitted to Crop Science, Landscape Horticulture, or Turfgrass Science effective with the conclusion of Spring Quarter, 2012.
The switch to the new major and specialization has been and continues to be discussed with students so it will not come as a surprise to them. The students are excited about the change and are looking forward to the new major and specialization appearing on their transcripts.
Transition plans have been prepared and included with other submission materials for the new major and specializations. Horticulture and Crop Science faculty advisors are working with transition students to plan the courses to take under quarters and then under semesters to complete their degrees on time.
