The Ohio State University, Columbus: Friday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 7

The Fall 2010 meeting of the String Vacuum Project (SVP) will be held at The Ohio State University in Columbus. The venue for all the talks will be the Physics Research Building (pictured above) located at 191 W. Woodruff Ave, Columbus, OH 43210

Now completing its first full year as an National Science Foundation sponsored project, the SVP is a large, multi-institution, interdisciplinary network dedicated to exploring the space of string models (string vacua) and their low-energy phenomenological implications. The specific goals of the SVP are many, including

  • the enumeration and classification of string vacua;
  • the development of a detailed understanding of those string vacua with realistic low-energy phenomenologies;
  • the development of more explicit connections between string vacua and LHC data and phenomenology generally; and
  • statistical studies across the entire "landscape" of string vacua.

Through both direct enumeration and statistical studies, we gain valuable experience in the construction and analysis of phenomenologically viable string models and their connections to the Standard Model and ultimately to experiment.

Notice: Starting Friday morning there will be a bus to take participants to the Physics Department from the Holiday Inn and return. More information can be obtained when checking in. See you soon.

This will be the third in a series of meetings bringing together physicists and mathematicians interested in string model-building and string phenomenology. We particularly encourage participation from junior colleagues (postdocs and graduate students). The style of this workshop will include not only talks on recent work, but also ample time for coordination and discussion concerning the larger SVP project. An important goal of this meeting will also be to foster future collaboration between program participants.

The previous meeting in this series was held in the spring at the KITP, Santa Barbara http://nuweb.neu.edu/bnelson/svp2010.html

Registration deadline extended to: October 15, 2010

The meeting will be held Nov. 5-7, 2010 at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. There will be no registration fee, but space is strictly limited. We therefore request that all interested attendees register via the appropriate link above. It is expected that participants will pay their own travel and lodging expenses. Some limited support may be available to participants, particularly junior participants.

This meeting is supported in part by the US National Science Foundation
