Abstract

Charge-transfer compds. with high elec. cond. are described which can be represented by the formula [A]x+[B]y-, where A is I with R1-R4 the same or different and either H or Me, B is TCNQ, X = 1, and Y = 1 or 2. The compds. are useful in any application where semiconductors are used, e.g. transistors, rectifiers, diodes, etc., or where conducting materials are employed, e.g. as a support substrate in electrophotog. imaging members. To prep. the complex of TCNQ with the donor in which R1-R4 = H, d,d'-bithiopyrylene (called BTP), a soln. of 25.4 mg BTP in 4 mL acetonitrile and 2 mL C6H6 was mixed with a soln. of 26 mg TCNQ in 5 mL acetonitrile at room temp. The mixt. turned green and was stored in a refrigerator for 1/2 h. A dark purple solid, 43 mg, m.p. 195-200° was isolated by suction filtration with elemental anal. close to that of C22H12S2N4, corresponding to (BTP)(TCNQ).
