Title: A new approach to improving science teacher education in an urban environment Speaker: Richard Steinberg City College of New York Abstract: After many years of working with science teachers in New York City, I wanted to improve my perspective by becoming one of them. I therefore spent a yearlong sabbatical as a full time science teacher in an inner city public high school. In this presentation I describe my time as a college physics professor in this challenging environment. I then relate my experiences to CLUSTER, a project intended to recruit and train future New York City science teachers.
