Suppose you want to connect to your "U:" drive from home. Here are the steps:
- Create a VPN Connection.
- Right click on My Computer or
Network Neighborhood and Map Network Drive
- In the Path enter the string "\\128.146.37.120\username$", where username is your NT username at Physics. You can map this share to drive letter "U:" if you wish.
- Choose Connect using a different user name and fill in the
information for your Physics windows account. In this case, remember to use
the form physics.ohio-state.edu\username, because the default is for XP, etc., to
assume that the account is on the local machine. Also enter your password
for your Physics windows account.
- Hit OK and then Finish, and the drive should map. The drive is just
a share on the server, so it'll only map to drive letter "U:" if you told it
to in the Map Network Drive dialog.
- Go read my notes on security.
