The add printer wizard is fairly self-expanatory, but there are a few tricks and problems you should know about:
- On the first screen of the wizard, choose Network printer server, then Next
- in the Connect to printer screen, click on the box labeled printer. Every printer spooled on the NT server is named "smithxxxx", where xxxx is the room number. For instance, the laser printer in room 4035 is named "smith4035". Of course, there're going to be exceptions to the rule: the color printer in that room is named "smith4035c". In the labeled box, type in the name of the printer you want to connect to. For instance, to connect to the smith4035 printer, type in \\phypcs\smith4035
- That's about it... There's one recurring problem we've observed, wherein when you try to add a printer using
the add printer wizard, a message pops up saying that you do not have permission to add a printer. If you have this problem when trying to add a network printer from your NT account, come see the computer staff.
