Scattering

In order to investigate the possibility of an enhancement in the IVSL to IVST ratio in QF scattering using a pure isovector probe it is necessary to use a charge-exchange reaction such as or . A series of experiments was carried out using the reaction at the Neutron Time-of-Flight (NTOF) facility at LAMPF. These results are reported in [Tad94], [Che93], and [Lut93]. These measurements were done on , , and at 494 MeV at scattering angles of , , and (q = 1.2, 1.7, and 2.5 ).

Figure: Ratio of IVSL to IVST responses for at 494 MeV. The dashed lines show results from full RPA + DWIA calculations. [Tad94].

The results for the scattering are shown in figure gif.

One can see from figure gif that, in fact, the Alberico et al. calculations (shown with the dashed line) fail to reproduce the data. There again seems to be no indication of a collective enhancement of the IVSL relative to the IVST responses in the nucleus.
