I discuss a new avenue in studying the low x regime of QCD: diffraction on heavy nuclei. I consider coherent and incoherent diffraction and also diffractive hadron production in eA and pA collisions. Gluon saturation in nuclei imparts its distinctive signatures in each one of these processes. I discuss possible applications to RHIC, LHC and EIC experimental programs.
