General Information about 880.05 Nuclear Many-Body Physics
- Course title:
- Nuclear Many-Body Physics
- Text:
- There is no single text that covers the relevant material with
the methods we want to use. So we'll use many texts (all on
reserve at the library) through handouts and lecture notes.
- Prerequisites:
- The first-year graduate courses (quantum mechanics,
electromagnetism, classical mechanics, statistical mechanics).
Previous exposure to field theory is not assumed.
Email Prof. Furnstahl if you're concerned about
your preparation.
- Material:
- Although the
title is Nuclear Many-Body Physics and we will have nuclear examples often in
mind, the focus is more generally on many-body (mostly many-fermion)
theory in the spirit of Fetter and Walecka's many-body text but
updated to include path integral, renormalization group, and effective
field theory methods.
