The front cover photo represents lasing in photonic crystals [specifically opal infiltrated with DOOPPV (poly(2,5-dioxyhexyl para-phenylenevinylene)], described in general in the papers on pages 419-513 (photonic crystals), and in particular the papers starting on pages 465, 485, 493 and 497. The photo was taken by R. Polson with assistance by M. DeLong (Univ. of Utah).
