I recently did a project with Jens Kujat, David Weinberg, and Robert Scherrer (my advisor) examining what could be learned about the nature of the dark energy (whether it is quintessence or a cosmological constant, and if it is quintessence whether it varies in time or is constant) from various cosmological measurements. We produced a paper that was published in the June 10, 2002 issue of Astrophysical Journal. It is available here, or on the e-print arXive as astro-ph/0112221.
