Early in my graduate studies I worked with David Weinberg on a project studying the shape of the absorption lines making up the Lyman α forest. The issue was whether the lines were well described by a gaussian shape, and we found that generally they were not. In the end, our results were not quite interesting enough to warrant publication, but the paper we wrote can be found here. [Disclaimer: as this paper never made it to the publication state, it is incomplete in parts and may not contain full references to relevant work.]
