Tests (80 pts): During the test day each week you may take one quiz from each of the weeks you have not passed. Each of the 8 quizes that you pass will count for 10 points toward your final grade. Tests will be closed book and will consist of multiple choice and fill-in questions.
Presentations (75 pts): You are expected to present and discuss in two 7 minute presentations the ideas of two of the topics listed on the General Information sheet. For these presentations you will work in groups of three. You must use at least two articles from the Supplemental Readings for each topic. Each three-person group will be given roughly 21 minutes for the topic. You are required to turn in a summary of your talk. In addition each three-person group is required to turn in one outline of the entire topic. The first presentation, summary and outline will each be graded out of 10 pts; the second presentation, summary and outline will each be graded out of 15 points. Final Projects (50 pts): The final projects for the course consist of a 15 minute presentation on a topic of your choice and a paper answering a specific question. During the first weeks of class you should sign up for a final presentation topic. This topic must be approved by one of the instructors. Your presentation will be scheduled during the last two weeks of the quarter and will be graded out of 25 points. For your final written project you will write a paper answering the question: How should the United States meet its energy needs over the next 100 years? Your paper will be graded out of 25 points. Participation (10 pts) and Attendance (10 pts):Your contribution to the class discussion during the quarter is important to making the class interesting and informative. Attendance at presentations by other students is required.
