HOW TO CHECK XFT PASSES COLDSTART WITH RUN CONTROL

1. setup fer on any b0dap** machine

2. Type "rc &" to start run control.  Read any text messages in pop-up window
and click ok to make it go away.

3. Go to Enable menu, select DAQ 

4. Go to Partition menu. Click Select Partition.  Click on any free partition
numbered 0-7.

5. Go to Partition menu.  Click Select Resources (manual interface).  Right-click
on XFT box to bring up XFT selector.  Left-click on XFT crate(s) you want
to test.  The XFT crates you've selected should go green. If they are red,
then someone else already has them booked.  Hover the mouse over the crate
to find out which partition owns the crates, then go to the CDF Resource
Selector Partition menu and click on List Active Partitions.  'Phone the
person and ask politely if you can have the XFT crate(s).  Explain in 
general terms what you want to do, if necessary!   Minimise windows.

6. Go to Parameters menu, click Edit or View Run Settings.  Add relevant XFT
crate(s) by selecting them in lower right scrollpane, then clicking <<Add<< to
add them to the run set. Go to File menu, click close.

7. You are now ready to use the main Run Control State Manager Window.  Click
the partition button (below the Start oval), wait for the IDLE oval to go
green.  Watch the small Replies and Acknowledgements GUI to see the status
of the various crates (green = in correct state, yellow = in transition, red =
error!)

8. Click the Coldstart button, wait for the READY oval to go green.
Watch the Replies and Acknowledgements GUI. 

If the READY oval and/or an XFT crate in the R&A window goes red, then error
messages should appear in the  Error Display window.  We have tried to make
these descriptive, so you should know what's wrong from the message and be
able to take action to solve the problem, eg wrong flashram design,
wrong serial number.
Please make an entry in the XFT elog if something is unclear or if you
have a complaint.

9. Click the Activate button, wait for the ACTIVE oval to go green.  Watch
the R&A GUI.  Let a couple of hundred events go by.  Try hitting HRR button.
If that cycled round back to Active properly, hit End, then repeat from step 8
a few times.

10. If the XFT passes COLDSTART several times and runs happily in ACTIVE,
click on the End button, then the Reset button.  Go to the Partitioning menu,
click on Close Partion. Go to the File menu, click exit.
