New comments on confining large N gauge theories

Matthew Strassler, (Penn)

Abstract

Duality between large N gauge theories and gravity theories have permitted us to gain new insights into both. Confinement, chiral symmetry breaking and Seiberg duality in gauge theory have recently been exhibited in gravity, or more specifically, in string theory. I will describe this work and show how properties of string theory reproduce many nonperturbative aspects of the field theory.
