Seiberg's field theory duality from M theory

Martin Schmaltz (Stanford University)

Abstract

In this talk I present a ``derivation'' of Seiberg's
duality for supersymmetric QCD from String/M-theory.
After a brief review of the duality I give an elementary
introdcution to engineering field theories within string
theory using D-branes. I then show that the electric and
magnetic descriptions of supersymmetric QCD correspond to
two limits of the same brane configuration in String/M-theory.
The two limits correspond to the strong and weak coupling
limits of the gauge theory, respectively.
