Clocks, computers, black holes, spacetime foam, holographic principle, and threshold anomalies

Yee J. Ng, (UNC)

Abstract

What do simple clocks, simple computers, black holes, spacetime foam, and holographic prinicple have in common? I will show that the simple physics behind them is inter-related, linking together our concepts of information, gravity, and quantum uncertainty. Potentially the same physics provides a solution to the threshold anomalies encountered in the ultra-high energy cosmic ray events and the astrophysical TeV-gamma ray events. (A threshold anomaly refers to a theoretically expected energy threshold that is not observed experimentally.)
