Polarization of heavy quarkonium at the Tevatron

Abstract

The polarizations of prompt J/ψ and inclusive Υ(nS) at the Fermilab Tevatron is calculated within the nonrelativistic QCD factorization framework. The result for the polarization of Υ(1S) is consistent with a recent measurement by the CDF Collaboration while that of prompt J/ψ disagrees with the CDF data in the highest P_T bin. We predict that Υ(nS) states are transversely polarized in higher P_T bin which could be probed in Run II of the Tevatron.
