How do I get "authenticated" to contribute to the Faq-O-Matic?
0. Send email to webmaster@www.physics.ohio-state.edu requesting permission to contribute to some existing or new topic. If you get the ok from the webmaster, proceed with the following steps.
1. When you first try to add a question or answer using
["Add a new Answer to xxx"],you will get an authentication page.
2. Authentication is by your email address (use the same one every time) and a password.
3. To establish your email/password combination (once and for all), select
[Create a new Login]This will prompt for an email address and a password. [Don't use a password used elsewhere; it is not very secure!]
4. You will get another page that wants a "secret" string of characters, which will arrive (hopefully almost immediately) as an email message. The secret is something like
Secret: 5aaca6b8da93Put this in the Secret: box [cut and paste if you can, or use the URL in the email] and select validate.
5. Now you will get the authentication page again and you get in by entering your email address and password. You only need to do this once per session
(although your session will expire after a while).
