I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at The Ohio State University . My graduate studies were performed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . My undergraduate studies were completed at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia.
My wife, Sue, lives with me in Columbus, in the Short North district. Here is a link to our wedding site .
I am generally interested in dramatic quantum phenomena and exotic quantum ground states. This includes various forms of strongly correlated matter, cold gases, and quantum computing. Most of my work has focused on Bose-Einstein Condensation in alkali gases, and has involved several aspect of Condensed Matter and Atomic Physics. Some topics which I have studied include: 1) the phase transition in an interacting Bose gas; 2) the structure of the condensed phase in the presence of a spontaneously broken non-gauge symmetry; 3) the thermally activated decay of persistent currents; 4) instabilities in attractive gases; 5) kinetic theories; 6) using a condensate as a tunable non-linear media to slow and stop light; 7) spin textures in rotating gases; 8) quantum Hall and spin liquid physics of rotating Bose clusters; and 9) swallowtail loops in optical lattices.
