Another Archetype for my hypothetical Purist Feng Shui setting. Fan-Created Archetype: Chaos Programmer "Time for some Fortean Fortran!" In theory, once the Purists distilled sorcery down to mathematics, anything capable of manipulating numbers and symbols should be able to work magic. Like, say, a computer. In practice, it almost never worked, and the idea was largely abandoned after the localized Critical Shift that favored magic over technology in Purist territory. However, you were either part of one of those old projects, or you were a Jammer who hacked into the database of one of those old projects. Or maybe even a buddy of one of those Jammers. Computer magic doesn't seem to be chi-ting, making it popular with Jammers. In any case, you're something of a free spirit, who loves to take things apart to see how they work...machines, computers, logical systems, ontologies, reality, whatever. And thanks to your private little Daemon, you can get inside almost anything. Juncture: 2063 Attributes: BOD 5 CHI 0 (Mag =6) MND 6 (Int 8) REF 7 Either add 2 points to BOD or 1 point each to CHI and REF. Skills: Sorcery +7 (=13) Guns +5 (Max 13) Info/Mathemagic +3 (11) Info/Computers +5 (13) Intrusion +2 [Max 10] Fixit +2 (=10) Add +3 to your existing skills OR take one new skill at +1. Schticks: Operator plus two Sorcery Schticks from the following list: Blast (Force), Divination, Movement, Summoning. See notes below. Unique Schtick: Daemon A Daemon is a Logic Spirit that is bound to the Chaos Programmer, living in a portable computer of palmtop size. The Chaos Programmer cannot use Sorcery without the Daemon's help. If the Daemon is installed in a more powerful system, it can give more help. Laptops give a +1 to Sorcery AV, Desktops give +2, and larger computers +3 or more. This assumes 2063 non-Arcanotech computers, which are somewhat more advanced than Contemporary ones. Using Contemporary computers reduces the benefit by 1 (but Contemporary computers also tend to lack mystic defenses or high Will). Sorcery Backlash usually involves damage to the Daemon's current home and it will require a new computer before the Chaos Programmer can use Sorcery again. Unique Schtick: Operator This is a Sorcery Schtick only available to Chaos Programmers (or those who train with one). In most respects, it functions as Domination on computers, and the GM will need to assign Will scores to computers as necessary. However, it has a few more uses. Fastboot: Normally it takes several minutes to "install" the Daemon on a new machine. However, at the risk of damage to both Daemon and machine, it can be done in 3 shots. The character must make a Sorcery check against the Will of the target machine. Failure means the Daemon is damaged and will be useless until time can be taken out of combat to reboot it. A positive Outcome gives the number of sequences that the target machine may be used as a focus for the character's Sorcery before the Daemon is forced out. While the Daemon is in the computer, however, it has Will 0 against any other intrusion attempts and is at -5 Difficulty for any mundane hacking attempts. After the Daemon leaves, the target machine suffers -1 Impairment for any operations until repaired. Connect: As a Difficulty 5 Sorcery check, the character can bypass any security between a machine and the network. As a Difficulty 10 Sorcery check, the character can connect a machine to the network that has no normal ability to connect. And for Difficulty 15, a computer with no power source can be turned on anyway. The character must spend an hour familiarizing himself with the machine, or the Difficulty is raised by 5. Sorcery Schtick Notes: Blast (Force) can be found in Thorns of the Lotus. It is simply a bolt of force. Divination uses the computer as a focus, and generally takes the form of "Search Fu". Movement represents mathemagical equations of motion. Summoning can only summon Purist-style Spirits and Constructs, not tradtional demons, ghosts or Abominations. Weapons: 1 weapon appropriate to your juncture. Quick Schtick Picks: Sorcery: Blast (Force), Divination Weapon: Buro 9 Wealth Level: Working Stiff
