This page will focus on the description of "user level" instructions in the Beamtest DAQ, although there are a number of expert-level controls that will not be described here.
The Beamtest DAQ is based on the CFEB_Control program. This system uses X-Window menus with GUI controls for easy operation. The following functions are to be performed by the users:
Configure the system
Under menu "Config---> Testbeam Config" select "Setup normal scint L1"
{this operation takes about 1 minute to complete}
A lot of configure information scrolls off the screen....this is normal.
Initialize a run Under Menu Config---> Testbeam Setup select "New Run, same setup"
{a green "Start" button will appear on the panel; this operation completes in a few seconds}
A lot of configure information scrolls off the screen....this is normal.
Start a run
Press the green "Start" button ~5 seconds before the start of a spill
{the green "Start" button changes to a red "Stop" button}
A brief summary will be printed every 500th event. Occasionally a condition will occur within an event that prints a lot of text on the screen...these indicate a problem with an event, but it is usually not critical, and normal operation will continue....this is normal.
Stop a run Press the red "Stop" button when the desired goal is achieved, preferably between spills when the DAQ routine says
"waiting for data."
{the red "Stop" button disappears; this operation may take ~5 seconds}
A brief "Run Summary" will appear on the screen at the end of the run. Please note the Run Number, Number of Events, last L1A number and any non-zero status summary in the logbook. Check that the data file is present: look for the Run Number when you go into an Xterm and type
ls -al /data/csc_data
to Start a New Run See the "Initialize a run" section above and follow the instructions from there.
