CMS-CSC Beamtest 2003 at CERN-X5A >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< Current schedule as of 13 June 2003 =================================== 15 May -22 May 2003: CSC setup and checkout tests at X5A --DONE We had a Normal Muon beam at this time...used for setup tests. 23 May - 1 June 2003: structured beam testing --DONE We took a lot of muon and pion data...poor gas mix required us to set HV at 3900V, but data looks good. 2 June - 12 June 2003: "scrubbing" period, NO PHYSICS --DONE I guess this is dead-time for us...enjoy CMS week activities! The gas mixture was tuned and tested, normal now. 13 June - 18 June 2003: "normal" beam testing, pions at 10^4 Hz We actually have muons from 11 June - 16 June, then pions. Hopefully the primary users let us have control for a few hours for high rate tests...at SPS, to get high rates one must use pions, using collimators to control rate. -> Use this time for High rate trigger efficiency tests High rate DAQ capability tests 18 June - 23 June 2003: electron beam, no good for us Roll CSCs aside and install beam pipe promptly at 8am, we need some *extra manpower* Wednesday 18 June to get this done in ~2 hour time frame. 23 June - 25 June 2003: "normal" beam testing, pions at 10^4 Hz Remove beam pipe & reinstall CSCs promptly at 8am Monday 23 June, we need *extra manpower* to help us move & set up quickly, ~1 hour time frame. Plan for NO ACCESS FOR 2 DAYS after this. 25 June - 26 June 2003: Machine studies, NO Physics until 4pm Thursday 26 June. 26 June - 1 July 2003: "normal" beam testing, high-rate muons Physics beam starts at 4pm. As above, perhaps the primary users will let us control the beam with high-rate pions for a few hours. -> Use this time for High rate trigger efficiency tests High rate DAQ capability tests 1 July 2003: tear down and pack equipment >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< Access Requirements =================== All users are required to get a CERN film badge. There is no problem for registered CERN users to get a temporary badge ( <2 months ). It is also likely that we will have to attend a CERN fire safety seminar which is offered 1-2 times weekly. >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< X5A Location & Info =================== The X5A beamtest area is in building 180 at CERN. Our control room there is upstairs in room 1-E11; there is an access code you have to type to unlock the door: 135680. The phone number of our control room is 767-6056. Cars can be parked near the GIF in front of building 190. >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===< Shipping address to CERN: Petr Levchenko CERN, EP Division 2, route de Meyrin CH-1211, GENEVE 23 SWITZERLAND phone: 4179 201 0537 Inside CERN use Site Meyrin, Bat. 375, Entrance I-3. phone: 160537 >===--------------------------------------------------------------------===<
