I will discuss measurements for which the signal to noise ratio is limited only by quantum back action noise. I will then present an example of such a measurement for charge based qubits using a quantum point contact. Various timescales will be defined that determine when a measurement is sufficiently fast and accurate to be used in quantum computer implementations in the solid state.
