An apoE-dependent mitochondrial pathway in Alzheimer's disease
Oscar Alzate, Duke University

ApoE4 is a risk factor for AD. Using dige proteomics-based systems biology we have identified potential pathways leading to onset and progression of AD. In particular, we have identified a protein that affects mitochondrial protein contents in an apoE dependent manner. Two other proteins, VCP and AKT1, previously indicated as key players in unfolded protein degradation and insulin regulation, respectively, have been detected as differentially expressed in human hippocampus with AD.
