Springs and Struts in the Mitotic Spindle

We will discuss a new model for the organization of the mitotic spindle. Based upon the mechanical properties of DNA and the organization of pericentric chromatin, we propose that the segregation apparatus is a composite structure of soft, compliant chromosomes and rigid microtubules.
