Inter-American Conference Report, Working Group 7

Teacher-Centered Issues

4-1. How can teachers work on their teaching style?

4-2. How can teachers see what the outcomes of the changes in their teaching style are?

4-3. What role does the emotional part of the teachers' relation to their professors play?

4-4. How do we get a teacher, as a practical matter, to be interested in making changes in the classroom?

4-5. Past research has suggested that teachers could be made to make the student succeed or fail based on that teacher's perception of the student. Teachers given a list of randomly-chosen students of "outstanding promise" saw them succeed in their classes. Students said to be failures became so. How does teacher attitude affect student performance in physics?

4-6. How can teachers build bridges if they cannot communicate easily? Barriers to communication: Mail is slow. Email is nonexistent. People have no time.
