The quiz is due before class today, 1 April 2004.
A particle lives in a one-dimensional box. The potential U(x) is infinite outside the box, and zero inside the box (from 0 to L). The Schrödinger equation gives the solutions for En indicated in the text.
a. Suppose there were a little step running from L/4 to 3L/4 that was a bit higher potential than zero. How would it change the possible energies, if at all? Explain.
b. Suppose there were a little step running from L/4 to 3L/4 that was a bit lower potential than zero. How would it change the possible energies, if at all? Explain.
