Girls Reaching to Achieve in Sports & Physics (GRASP)

2011 GRASP Activities - Tuesday June 14 & 21

  Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday

On June 14, 2011, Dr. Adam Hauser gave a lecture and demonstration on the physics of bikes and gymnastics.
On June 21, 2011, Dr. Nancy Santagata gave a lecture and demonstration on the physics of bikes and gymnastics.
After learning about the physics of bikes, the campers visited several bike stations which taught them how the different parts of a bike work.
The Center for Emergent Materials (CEM) at OSU provided the bike stations.
The campers were able to take apart an old bike to see how the gears, petals, and breaks work.
Several Physics faculty members took groups of campers to their labs to show them the research that is currently being done in the field.
In the afternoon, the camp took a field trip to Fliptastic! Gymnastics to learn basic gymnastics skills from trained coaches.
