Ryan Nichol (former postdoc, now a Royal Society Fellow and Lecturer at University College London), Prof. James Beatty, and graduate research associate Kim Palladino are working on preparing the experiment behind them for a long duration balloon flight over the Antarctic ice sheet. ANITA is designed to detect the neutrinos with energy ~1 Joule produced when ultrahigh energy cosmic rays interact with the cosmic microwave background radiation. Mount Erebus, a volcano, is behind the group and to the left. The fullsize picture is also available.
