Physics Education vs. Physics Education Research: Examples of the Latter and Implications for Improving Instructional Practices
Jose Mestre
University of Massachusetts Amherst
The words “physics education research” conjure many meanings among physicists who are not physics education researchers. Prof. Mestre will begin by distinguishing between physics education, and physics education research. Then he will present several studies to illustrate how physics education research sheds light on students’ reasoning processes, and how some of this research can sometimes be applied to improve physics education. He will conclude by identifying interesting future directions for physics education research.
