Advances of femtosecond laser techniques have opened new frontiers in studying exotic states of matter when it is exposed to ultrashort high-intensity laser pulses. In this talk, I will discuss some recent research activities in my lab, from striping electrons from molecules, to exciting plasmons along a surface, to transforming a shiny piece of metal pitch black.
