The Fission of the Electron

Humphrey J. Maris

Brown University

Quantum mechanics provides an extremely successful method for the calculation of the energy levels and other properties of physical systems. However, from the earliest days of quantum theory there has been controversy about the interpretation of the theory and what happens when a measurement is made. This talk will address these issues through a discussion of experiments that study the strange behavior of electrons in liquid helium.
