Progress Report
This is the Eighth “PROJECT NEWS” for The Ohio State Physical Sciences Research Building. Comments are for the period 9/27/03 through 10/31/03.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Physical Sciences Research Building is a five level, four story, laboratory and office/classroom facility. An impressive landmark building, the exterior is brick laid in a very unique 1/3 progressive pattern with glass integrated into both the walls and terraced roof line.
The building’s purpose as a research facility requires the impressively deep, large basement and pits. Please view our progress at our web-based real-time image available at: http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/construction_large.html
ITEMS OF INTEREST
Activity around the Project will maintain a high tempo for the next few months with the finalization of exterior brick, continued mechanical equipment, curtainwall, and the start of roofing. Work in 19th Street to install underground utilities will be occurring near the intersection of McGruder. Interior work is progressing in earnest with partitions in place on most floors.
PROGRESS STATUS
The Project’s progress status is “On Schedule”. At this time, the Project completion date, late September 2004, is projected as achievable. The project is 48% complete. The exterior skin and roof are progressing to “dry-in” the building before winter.
PROGRESS REPORT
Truck traffic will continue and will mostly be interior drywall, masonry, atrium scaffold, and roofing.
Present significant activities include: Continue mechanical, electrical, plumbing, stud walls, and brick. Start roofing and exterior glass systems.
Next month’s activities include: Masonry, interior partitions, roofing, and glass. All work scheduled for the month of November is contained within the boundaries of the construction fence, with the exception of steam line work at 19th and McGruder. Safety Status is “No lost time incidents this period”. Turner’s Hard Hat Sticker Program and Safety Awards Program are in effect and all tradesmen have received Project specific safety orientation. All contractors are participating. The project has 90,000+ hours without a lost time accident. The Project is planning a lunch to acknowledge the 100,000-hour milestone.
