Critical Measures of Galaxy Environment: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Description: From small to large scales, galaxy environment is one of the key pillars on which our current understanding of galaxy evolution rests. And yet environment can be tricky to define and somewhat a matter of opinion. This produces a "moving baseline" effect, hampering the comparison of different results and their interpretation. In this large collaborative work I contrast 13 different published measures of galaxy environment applied to a common mock galaxy catalogue to investigate: 1) how different measures of environment compare when all are placed on equal footing, and 2) how our end results are coloured by the environment measure we choose.
