Nonequilibrium effects in single channel and two-channel Kondo systems

Who:  Aditi Mitra - (NYU)
Where:  Smith Seminar Room (1080 PRB)
When:  Monday, November 16, 2009 at 11:30
Type:  Condensed Matter Theory Seminar

Description: It is now experimentally possible to realize both a single channel as well

as a two channel Kondo system in nanoscale structures, opening up the

possibility of studying their nonequilibrium properties. After a brief review of experiments, I will present theoretical results for the effect of current flow as well as the effect of sudden time-dependent perturbations such as a quantum quench on these systems. In equilibrium, a single channel Kondo system is a Fermi liquid, while a two-channel Kondo system is a non-Fermi liquid. I will highlight how this difference shows up in their nonequilibrium properties.
