The members of SWiP actively participate in a variety of outreach programs coordinated internally, by the OSU Department of Physics, or by other local organizations. Some of these events are discussed below. If you wish to volunteer or get more information, please contact the outreach coordinator.

Ohio State Fair
Each summer, volunteers from SWiP join other OSU physicists and Sigma Pi Sigma members at the "Fun with Physics" booth to teach a large crowd of fairgoers through a series of kid-friendly demonstrations including a bed of nails, liquid nitrogen demos, and a water rocket.

Scientific Thinkers Program
SWiP members regularly volunteer for Scientific Thinkers, a department-wide program in which volunteers work with 2nd - 5th grade science teachers at Arlington Park elementary school to create and present hands-on science lesson plans.

Annual Winter Charity Drive
Each November and December, SWiP organizes and runs a drive for material donations to help the needy in our area. We create a physics related goal, such as trying to raise 2011 Newtons of donations, and generally receive a few carloads worth of materials. The first year of the drive, SWiP (formerly GWiP) donated miscellaneous items to the YWCA Columbus and the Columbus Open Shelter. The second year, we ran a toiletry drive for the YWCA.

Annual Spring Fundraiser
During April, SWiP organizes, secures donations, and runs a fundraiser, raffling off gift certificates to local businesses. Each year, we choose a different cause to support. In the past, we bought and donated 6 microscopes to a local school in a high poverty area, donated proceeds to the GRASP summer camp, and contributed to the building of a Wellness and Lactation Room for the Physics Research Building.
