The objective of our studies is to fundamentally understand self-assembly and molecular recognition in complex systems and apply that knowledge in rational design of advanced materials. To achieve that goal we will explore: 1) methods of computational chemistry to facilitate the design of information-rich molecules; 2) organic synthesis to prepare components to be used in the assembly; 3) various analytical methods for separation and characterization of assembled molecules; and 4) fabrication of devices and supramolecular materials for application in nanotechnology.
